Amy Young

Intern

Amy is an emerging conservationist aspiring towards a career in threatened species management. She holds a Bachelor of Wildlife Science from the University of Queensland and completed her Honours in Ecology at the University of New South Wales, where her research examined the impacts of urbanisation on platypus populations in Brisbane.

Early in Amy’s career, she has been committed to gaining hands-on conservation experience by volunteering for a range of not-for-profit conservation initiatives. Most recently, Amy was a Team Leader for the Ningaloo Turtle Program, spending the 2025/26 summer based in Exmouth, WA. For eight weeks she was responsible for coordinating daily sea turtle monitoring, program administration and organising remote field camps. Amy has also volunteered with the Australian Wildlife Conservancy, assisting with fauna surveys in far north Queensland and establishing a biodiversity monitoring site in the Northern Territory.

Amy loves exploring and experiencing the diversity of Australian landscapes and is excited to learn about the management and unique flora and fauna of the Otways during her internship with CEC.
