About Us > Our People > Asitha Samarawickrama

Asitha grew up in Sri Lanka, where he developed his passion for nature and conservation whilst birdwatching and observing wild elephants.

Asitha moved to Melbourne in 2013, where he studied a Bachelor of Environments Degree at the University of Melbourne. A former CEC intern, Asitha has more than eight years of experience working in the conservation field in Australia as a conservation scientist, ranger, wildlife guide and ecological consultant across Australia.

Asitha has an avid interest in fire ecology and Indigenous fire management, and studied the influence of Cultural Burning on koala density and stress on Minjerribah, North Stradbroke Island in partnership with the Detection Dogs for Conservation and Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation during his Masters Degree by Research.

In his free time you will find Asitha playing sport, hiking and photographing wildlife. He is excited to contribute to the conservation of the Otways Region, whilst exploring its beautiful landscapes.
